rain, allergies, and uggs

so if you're at all from the ny/nj metropolitan area you know that for the past week we've been rained out A LOT!!! there have been the few beautiful days in between, but that has not been more than two days long. this being said, it has been cold, dank, and people who suffer from allergies like moi have been having a hard time, hence the title of this post.

the good news! school has been out for about a week and a half and i emailed in my last paper on monday wooohooo! so i have spent much time with my socks in progress. above and below are the monkeys that i'm working on for my sister who so graciously posed for my froot loop pics. these are fun and easy to knit and the colorway is my sister to a t. while they haven't progressed too far, they're on and looking very pretty.


next up are the the treads from son of a SnB. so father’s day is quickly approaching and i still have my mom’s mother’s day project half finished. but i have to admit this project is getting more attention in order to feed my ever growing sock addiction than anything else. the treads are simple, classic and quickly knit up.

i have made some alterations to them because my uncle has very narrow feet (and the pattern is made for a man with the calves of a football player), but so far they are lovely, minus my little mistake in reversing the first cable. oops…hopefully my uncle will overlook this mistake and see the love that went into making them.

this is my first time using magic loop and i was dreading the turning of the heel and gusset for days but turns out after i changed the heel in the pattern, it was quite simple. hopefully i won’t spontaneously combust when trying to read my jibberish-like overexcited hand written corrections for the second sock. this is where the much talked about 2-at-a-Time Socks book would come in handy. hopefully they turn out as prettyful as the picture.

in the meantime i will return to my couch and cuddle up with my blanket and knitting. happy knitting!

my newest passion

they’re done, they’re done, they’re done!!! i have finally finished my first socks and absolutely loved the experience. i cannot wait to make millions more. the next pair that i’m working on are the snickets from ravelry for my best friend christine. but enough about the future, let’s talk about now. these were so great to make and i loved every second of it. especially the convincing my sister to pose as the skrik.

it all started on a quiet wednesday evening when a group of women gathered around the table at lys Patricia's Yarns for the april warm up your feet class (my feet have definately needed some warmth with this weather we've been having). we laughed, we talked, we gossiped, we cast-on our first socks and it all just went downhill from there. somehow the way that i was knitting my pattern was making it turn out weird, but what the heck, i'm not one to give up easily so i kept on going.

then, on may 1st, the magical email appeared, as if sent from up above. the knitty surprise! for those of you who do not know about knitty, it is a wonderful online knitting and crochet magazine with loads of free patterns. but back to my story. there it was, just waiting to be opened. and how perfect it was. the froot loop. not only does this sock scream mia all the way, but the koigu yarn that i had picked out was absolutely perfect for this project. and so i frogged my first attempt at a sock and started knitting up this wonderful creation.

in a matter of a a day, my first sock was done!


oh so pretty, but my other foot became oh so lonely. and so a few days later, along came the other and it is finally finished. the pair is complete and ready to be worn out and about forever and ever!...or until i wear a hole in them in which case i will make myself another pair.


but honestly, i never knew i could fall so in love with making something. the thrill of making these socks was like nothing i'd ever experienced before making any of my other projects. i think i have found my true calling.

crazy week turns into crazy month

ok so this blog has been a very slow starting thing. it turns out that my crazy week turned into a crazy month. god how i hate junior year. i think this has to be the absolute yuckiest year of all...except the whole brussels thing of course. for those of you just out of college or still in, i bet you can relate to the wonderful last month of the semester where the work seems to be never ending and it seems that you are sleeping less and less hours as the month progresses until you are just taking 20 minute naps all day long just to keep up with the pace.

well in between all of this work doing i somehow managed to ditch work long enough to finish betty-v. i'm very happy with myself and think that my first official item of clothing turned out quite well. (gives herself a pat on the back)


along with the betty-v i somehow managed to also start the much talked about sweater from rebecca. everyone at my lys, Patricia's Yarns, wants to cast this sweater on. although the pattern is lacking in the naming dept, long sweater with cables, the sweater is a beauty and i'm so excited to finally be able to wear it.


and finally, the class that warmed up my foot (second sock on the needles) and my heart has produced by first sock. after becoming frustrated with the first pattern that i chose, i finally stumbled upon knitty's surprise the froot loop which my choice of koigu yarn complemented perfectly and immediately cast-on and in a matter of a few hours was completely done with my first sock. i think i am now in love with the art of sock-making. (cables, sock-making, what's next?) this being my third project worked in koigu i'm falling deeper and deeper in love with this super soft, super warm, super funky yarn.
