I had the great pleasure of taking a fair isle workshop from the lovely Kelbourne Woolens ladies, Courtney and Kate, on the 6th over at my LYS. It was amazing! From Courtney saying Meritursas over and over, to Kate's wonderful explanation of her pattern, down to the glass of wine to "loosen our gauges," all I have a great memories.

I had the opportunity to hang out with Courtney and Kate before the class, and can I just say, they are the coolest gals ever! (Sorry Trish and Margaux) It was so great listening to them speak about the design process, how they got started distributing the Fiber Co. yarns, and best of all the interesting goings on of their personal lives (think super cute Halloween costumes and bedrooms turned into war zones). Getting to know these girls has really cemented my love and support for this line as well as has served for some much needed inspiration.

Back to the class! As a fair isle newbie, not only was I impressed by Kate's design process, but I was duly impressed by the ease with which fair isle came once Kate explained it. I have tried to read about fair isle and have even watched youtube videos, but it never seemed to click. I never understood the whole holding one color over the other thing, for a while I was a strong English knitter and didn't understand the whole holding the yarn in your left hand thing, it was just a mess. In walks Kate and it was definitely an "ahhhhhhhhh" (while looking up into the heavens above, of course) moment. Not only is Kate's teaching style great, but her tidbits and stories about her personal fair isle journey greatly enhanced the process.

So after a glass of wine, on my way I went.
